Tom Ellison, AIA, CID | Principal

Tom graduated in 1970 from the University of Minnesota School of Architecture. After working in Boston for a Community Action Program, building a geodesic dome in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and working for the Navaho Indian Tribe in Window Rock Arizona, Tom designed and built several houses in the Minneapolis area. In the late 1970’s Tom and a colleague, John Carmody, were major contributors to the book Earth Sheltered Housing Design: Guidelines, Examples & References published by the University of Minnesota. Tom also co-authored the book Earth Sheltered Homes. He founded TEA Architects in 1980. His work as a designer/principal has been published in numerous local and national magazines and books throughout his career. Tom’s work has also won awards from the Minneapolis Chapter of the AIA, Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission and St Paul Chapter of the AIA, and has several times received the AIA Minnesota/Mpls.St.Paul Magazine RAVE award and the AIA Minnesota/Star Tribune “Home of the Month” award.
Dan Nepp, AIA, CID | Principal

Dan graduated in 1986 from the University of Minnesota School of Architecture. He joined TEA Architects immediately following graduation in 1986. He became a licensed Architect in 1990. He then became a partner in 1996 and the firm changed its name to TEA2 Architects. In 2000, he won the Ralph Rapson Traveling Fellowship from the Minnesota Architectural Foundation. Dan has designed several different projects for PBS's Hometime including a thirteen-part series called House with Character. His work as a designer or as a principal has been published in over 30 publications and he has won several AIA Minnesota/Star Tribune "Home of the Month" awards and AIA Minnesota/Mpls.St.Paul Magazine RAVE awards. In 2008, Dan was awarded the honor of Architect of Distinction in a joint jury process by AIA Minnesota and Midwest Home Magazine.
Steve Nordgaard, AIA | Associate

Steve graduated in 1987 from the University of Minnesota School of Architecture, and became a licensed Architect in 1990. He worked for a commercial architecture firm from 1987–1996 on retail projects throughout the United States as well as single & multi-family residential projects in Minnesota. Steve joined TEA2 in 1996, became a Senior Project Manager in 2001 and an Associate in 2004. Steve’s work as a designer and as a Senior Project Manager/Associate has been recognized with an AIA Minnesota/Mpls.St.Paul Magazine RAVE award and an AIA Minnesota “Divine Detail Award”. His work has been published in several different magazines.
Tom Van De Weghe | Senior Project Manager

Tom graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Master’s Degree in Architecture in 1995, following a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology from UW-Madison. After graduate school, Tom worked for Robert A.M. Stern Architects in New York, and Julie Snow Architects in Minneapolis, serving as Project Manager and Designer on projects ranging from libraries and multi-family housing to corporate campus master plans and office buildings. Tom was Project Manager for the Great Plains Software 'Vista' building, which was awarded an AIA Minnesota Honor Award in 2003. Tom has been with TEA2 Architects since 2004, and has been Project Manager and Designer for several residences, including additions to historic houses, historically-inspired new homes and even modernist interior renovations.
