This home was designed with all major rooms having a view of Lake Superior. The exterior was designed to have both natural materials and to be low maintenance. Stone and bleached wood shingles with large overhangs meet those goals. The interior was designed to strike a balance between the client's conflict of wanting both a log cabin feel and a lighter, less "woodsy" feel.
The solution was to provide a post-and-beam timber architecture filled in with a mix of wood paneling and painted surfaces. The main Living spaces are grouped together for larger, informal gatherings; while the tower and screen porch provide for getting away and solitude.
